WAECHTER ARCHITECTURE WINS AT AIA OREGON AWARDS
WA is thrilled to announce we won three awards at the 2020 AIA Oregon Architecture Awards! This includes the top honor award of the evening for our project The Society Hotel Bingen. Thank you to the AIA Oregon and our jurors for recognizing our projects and a big congratulations to the other winners; we are always impressed and inspired by the quality of work coming from our community.

The Society Hotel Bingen - Honor Award
The juror's notes on the project:
"The renovation of the hotel is restrained and thoughtful and the new guest rooms and spa are both unexpected and delightful...The courtyard frames powerful views of the landscape beyond, while the porosity of the rooms along the perimeter captures more intimate views and creates human scale gathering spaces."
Client: The Society Hotel
Interior & Landscape Designer: Blossom Design
Contractor: Orange Construction
Structural Engineer: Grummel Engineering
Casework: Axiom

Blu Dot Showroom - Citation Award
The juror's notes on the project:
"This was a restrained yet powerful intervention in an existing building. A project that clearly articulates old and new in a very thoughtful manner. The two main moves - the singularity of the interior ribbon that creates different zones within a warehouse volume and the defining exterior canopy - are strong enough to breathe new life into this old building, but restrained enough to allow their original host to retain it's character and identity."

Origami - Merit Award
The juror's notes on the project:
"A bold new take on now ubiquitous, unimaginative multi-family developments...this approach effectively breaks down the scale of the full block development through origami-like folds of the building's mass giving the project a strong presence in the neighborhood while providing urban density in a humane manner. The interiors and private outdoor spaces are clean and bright; a refreshing, modern aesthetic not often found in this project type."
